Musical Biography
Tomer Rozen (born 1999) is a composer of opera and concert music, a harpsichordist and pianist. Tomer holds a MM composition degree from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Prf. Michael Gandolfi, and Dr. Sid Richardson. Tomer has a BM composition degree from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at the Tel Aviv University.
Recent activity includes a premiere of a new orchestral piece (winner of the NEC composition contest) by the NEC Symphony conducted by David Loebel, composition and solo performance of a piano concerto movement for the Sound in the Desert festival in Israel, and for a concert at the New England Conservatory, premiere of a chamber piece and a reading of an orchestral piece at the Atlantic Music Festival, premiere of two chamber opera scenes with the Deleuze New Music Collective, and as part of the NEC Tuesday Night New Music concert series, creation (text and music) of an hour-long musical play for the Tel Aviv University concert series.
Tomer's pieces were performed at Jordan Hall (Boston), the Tel Aviv Museum of Arts, Henry Crown Hall (Jerusalem), the Israeli national radio (Kann), Eden-Tamir Music Center (Jerusalem), Gordon Center for the Arts at Colby College, and by professional ensembles such as Israeli Netanya - Kibbutz Orchestra, Raanana Symphonette, and Meitar Ensemble.
Tomer received the Donald Martino Award for Excellence in Composition, won the New England Conservatory’s orchestral composition contest, the Israeli Netanya - Kibbutz Orchestra call for scores (leading to a nation-wide tour of his orchestral piece), the "Young Artist" composition competition, the Israeli Conservatory's composition competition, and received the Outstanding Musician Status for young Israeli musicians (as a pianist).
Tomer served as the harpsichordist of the NEC Early Music Ensemble, mentored by Susanna Ogata and Guy Fishman, participated in summer festivals and masterclasses, including Graz Early Music Summer Academy and RINGVE International Course in Early Music (harpsichord); The Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Musica in Villa and Music Fest Perugia (piano). Tomer studied harpsichord with Prof. David Shemer, and piano with Dr. Dror Semmel.
Tomer is a fellow of the "Ronen Foundation" for young artists in classical music.
